The "King of Pop" - sadly, polymorphous sexuality and world-class "adultescent"

How should we think about the career and influence of Michael Jackson?  Michael Medved has a very penetrating post.  Jackson blurred many distinctions as his career progressed, influencing cultures around the world.

The created order is filled with order, design, distinction, beauty, and purpose.  Particularly with gender and sexuality, as well as with child and adult distinctions, the influence of Michael Jackson ran against the the order and design of creation.  Unfortunately, this influence was felt by untold millions around the world.

  • Changing complexion and plastic surgeries obscured his African-American origins.  Many crossover fans, including from every continent.
  • He blurred the distinction between male and female, straight and gay.  Macho hip thrusts and crotch-grabbing coupled with soprano voice and effeminate speech.  Polymorphous sexuality (assuming a variety of forms), untethered to any known gender (androgynous – no gender value or some aspects attributed to the opposite gender).
  • Shattered distinctions between adult and child.  Held onto image of boyish innocence long after entering middle age.  He was fixated with Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up.  Personal estate named “Neverland.”  Wanted to define himself as an eternal child.  Refused to see anything inappropriate with treating children (pre-teen boys) as his personal “playmates.”  Allegations of child molestation.  Sadly, probably some connection with the normal childhood he never had.
Michael Medved’s post is worth the read …
